As we reflect on Teacher Appreciation Week, we are filled with gratitude for the outpouring of kindness we've received. From the delicious meals and thoughtful notes to the heartfelt gestures big and small, your support has meant the world to us. Each expression of appreciation reminded us how valued and supported we are by our community.

Dates for 4th Grade Families

Friday, May 16: Presentation at UCS for 4th grade students by BRMS principal (Mr. Hamilton) and guidance counselor (Mr. Martin)

Tuesday, May 27: 5th Grade Parent Orientation @6:30pm

Thursday, May 29: 4th Grade Track Meet at MMU

leaving UCS at 8:30 and arriving back to school between 1:15 and 1:30 (a volunteer/information form went home last Friday)

Friday, May 30: 4th Grade Move Up Day at BRMS (afternoon) *Leave at 11:00

(Students will visit BRMS during the school day and will receive team/teacher assignments when they arrive.

The parent placement letter will be mailed on May 30th.)

Wednesday, June 4: Golden Dome BRMS Visit with Mr. Baron (Mr. Baron will be in touch with families of students who are taking this trip)

Monday, June 16: 4th Grade Celebration Day

8:30-9:30 Celebration at UCS for students and caregivers

9:30-1:45 Activities, lunch and celebration at Mills Riverside Park (caregivers are welcome to volunteer and attend this as well)

Summer Math Opportunity

KIDS ON BIKES

Kids on Bikes

When: Tuesdays after school from 2:25pm to 4:00pm on May 13th, May 20th and May 27th (rain date June 3rd)

Where: Underhill Central School

Cost: $20 (T-shirts and one snack per day included)

We Need Volunteers! This program is solely run on volunteer effort. If you can help out (any skill set welcome!), please indicate on the sign-up form

Calling all 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade UCS students who want to ride their bikes and explore Underhill! Our goal is to expose 2nd-4th graders to mountain biking to develop safety and technical skills, build confidence, have fun, and gain an appreciation for the great outdoor resources right here at UCS.

Each participant is required to have a bike in working order, a helmet and water bottle. If your child would like to participate and any of these are a barrier, please contact Nick Tanner at KidsOnBikesVT@gmail.com – the goal is to get every kid on a bike who wants to ride.

Current Curriculum Units

Math

Third Grade

This unit focuses on understanding the operations of addition and subtraction, and adding and subtracting fluently. Students add multiples of 10 and 100 to, and subtract them from, 3-digit numbers. They use multiples of 100 as landmarks as they solve addition and subtraction problems with 3-digit numbers, including problems that involve liquid volume and mass. Students share, discuss, and compare different strategies for addition and subtraction.

Fourth Grade

This unit focuses on understanding the meaning of fractions and decimals; and comparing fractions and decimals including finding equivalents. Students use contexts and representations such as rectangles (an area model) and number lines (a linear model) to add, subtract, and multiply fractions.

Literacy

Our third and fourth graders have been diving into story structure by exploring the concept of Plot Mountain! They've been identifying key elements like the introduction, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution in the stories they read and write. In addition to this, students continue to meet in small groups to investigate spelling patterns and build their word knowledge. During writing time, they are working on opinion and persuasive pieces, learning how to clearly express their viewpoints. Students are also continuing to strengthen foundational skills through regular practice in both cursive handwriting and typing.
