Becoming a great mentor is about much more than watching younger children—it is about becoming someone others can trust. Mentors in the Making is designed for students ages 11–13 who are beginning to babysit, volunteer, lead younger children, or simply want to grow into confident, responsible young leaders.
Through hands-on activities, role-playing, team challenges, communication exercises, and real-life scenarios, students will develop practical leadership skills including responsibility, problem-solving, conflict resolution, patience, organization, safety awareness, and positive communication. They'll learn how to engage younger children through games, crafts, reading, and creative activities while building the confidence needed to lead with kindness and maturity.
We believe that leadership begins with character. While this is not a Bible study, we don't shy away from discussing God, Jesus, and the Christian values that inspire honesty, humility, compassion, integrity, and service to others. Students are encouraged to lead by example, treating others with respect and becoming positive role models in their homes, schools, churches, and communities.
Whether preparing to babysit, assist in children's programs, volunteer in the community, or mentor younger students, participants will leave this class with practical tools, greater confidence, and a stronger understanding of what it means to earn the trust of both children and parents.
