The greenspaces utilize vacant lots and transform them into sustainable, healthy ecosystems. This park system, along with improved streetscapes along major routes, will help to improve the overall connectivity and accessibility within the Hill District. These parks also increase local biodiversity, reduce the heat island effect, manage stormwater runoff, and provide residents with access to clean air and water.
Section of Chauncey Street and New Mixed Infill Development
(Section BB')
Formed around the park system and in between existing residents is proposed mixed development. This will promote businesses to return. Combining residences with areas of business will further increase the sustainability of the neighborhood. Walkable streetscapes connect to every major entrance into the neighborhoods.

Thematic Layers
Figure Ground
Building strategy involves infill development, avoiding the need to relocate families, much like what happened during the previous urban renewal project. Mixed use development surrounds greenspaces, allowing for local businesses to attract park users.
Greenspaces
By utilizing vacant lots, a system of greenspaces are created to unite the Hill District together. These areas also will serve as cultural hub, allowing for performances, markets, and other displays of art. They will serve as the base of community activity.
Vehicular Circulation
A main route connecting to all entrances of the Hill District allows for access to new shops in the mixed development area. This circulation pattern focuses on keeping traffic in the mixed development zone and out of residential areas.
Pedestrian Circulation
Improved streetscapes along main routes allow for safe use by both pedestrians and bikers. Pedestrian paths connect to greenspaces forming a united and safe walking route throughout the neighborhoods.
