The site for this project is located in the North Potomac Yard in Alexandria, Virginia which is about 25 minutes outside of the capitol. The North Potomac Yard was once a transportation hub and sits right along the Potomac River and it as well as the surrounding areas have a rich history.

The main concepts that inspired my design is the idea of breaking the traditional square grid and creating an even amount of walkable green and built space. On the right is a graphic showing the two grids.

This was the original master plan before designing a streetscape and green space.
the updated master plan shows the designs for the green spaces, and the streetscape
For my green space design, I decided to add another winding path throughout this area. this path is for people who want to spend more time in the space and it is made from a different colored material. The area also features playgrounds, raised mounds, fire pit/grilling areas, community gardens, large stones, a splash pad, and many different shrubs, flowers, and trees.
For my streetscape design, I decided to make two one way lanes which are the same level as the sidewalks which would be a different material compared to the other roads. The streetscape features wide sidewalks that provide seating as well as boardwalks that provide seating and tables. the site also leads to a stage and is meant to act as an event space as well.
