Senator Ticket

Amina Irfan

She/Her/Hers

Amina is a senior student majoring in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering with specifications in Aeronautical Engineering. She was born in Lahore, Pakistan, and raised in different cities of Pakistan before moving to the United States. She transferred to different cities every two-three years which means she traveled a lot in her early childhood. After moving to the United States, she settled with her family in Charleston, WV. She has been working as a Resident Assistant at WVU since Spring 2020. As you already know, she is running as Senator at large, and her focus is WVU Students. She wants to be a voice for all students and help them connect to campus and other students at WVU regardless of their backgrounds, race, or religious beliefs. As per hobbies, she likes to bicycle, explore new things, eat different kinds of food, visit new places, and watch TV shows. She has a dream to visit Turkey someday.

Also, she has already started working on facilitating students with more food items at our campus to support dietary restrictions and beliefs. She filed a proposal to dining services to provide halal meat for Muslims, Kosher meat for Jews, vegetarian and vegan food made in separate containers.

Sam Summers

He/Him/His

Sam Summers is a sophomore philosophy student.

His platform has two main points. First, he wants to push the university to develop some type of anti-racist education initiatives. As this state’s flagship university--and a land grant university--WVU has a responsibility to educate not only the students who go here, but people and children throughout the state. Second, he wants to push the university to start making investments in clean energy. Be this through purchasing solar energy, advocating for research, or any combination of things in between, the university must move toward a green future.

Chloe Hernandez

She/Her/Hers

Chloe Hernandez is a sophomore Neuroscience and Psychology student. She is the President of the Neuroscience club, a member of Delta Gamma, and the current Health Coordinator on SGA. Her platform is based on advocating and promoting for the mental health of all students. Due to the pandemic, on top of college life in general, mental health has become more critical to regularly assess and end the stigma. WVU is an institution that aims to provide students with care they need, however this needs to be greatly extended to mental health. First, she wants to push further for more useful mental health resources that are accessible to all students, not just in-state students. Second, she wants to push the university to continue hiring more diverse staff in the Carruth Center and throughout the University. She wants all students regardless of race, gender, sexuality, religion, etc to have a place where they can go to seek the care they need.

Madison Robinson

She/Her/Hers

Madison Robinson is a third year exercise physiology major with a health professions emphasis. If elected as Senator, Madison would focus on three things; safety, representation, and student experience. She would improve student safety by working towards getting campus areas better lit as most students' main form of transportation is walking. She would work to have safe spaces for students to present their issues with faculty or staff and have people to advise the students how to properly handle the situation. Lastly, Madison would work towards having a Spring Fling, similar to Fall Fest, so students have something fun to look forward to in the spring.

Donovan Weekley

He/Him/His

Donovan is a freshman Biology major with a minor in Statistics. He is currently an ambassador for the Honors College, the Social Media Chairperson of Minorities Association of Pre-healthcare Students, and an active member in various organizations including the NAACP and Pre-Medical Club. If elected as a senator at-large, he hopes to advocate for the implementation of more comprehensive antiracism education in first-year seminar classes; to support first-generation, underrepresented-in-medicine (URiM), LGBTQ+, and/or BIPOC pre-health students across campus with resources tailored to their unique identities; and to advocate for the creation of an Honors-specific LLC for BIPOC students who would like to live within the Honors community without sacrificing living among people with similar backgrounds in an LLC like the Quad.

Brooke Jones

She/Her/Hers

Brooke Jones is a sophomore political science student with minors in leadership studies and journalism. She is the Sisterhood Advisor for Omega Phi Alpha and is on the recruitment committee for MountaineerTHON! She also was a PAL mentor for first year students and has previously been an intern within SGA. After being elected senator, she hopes to enhance the overall student experience by focusing on the technological availability at West Virginia University. She would hope to create an initiative that allows students to check out and leave with laptops or any other technological devices from WVU libraries, as students right now lack the possibility to depart from the grounds of the library with a computer for an extended period of time. Brooke hopes to alleviate and bring awareness to any technological stressors during such digital dependent times, as the global pandemic has emphasized how difficult digital unpredictability can be for students at WVU!

Emily Whalen

She/Her/Hers

Emily Whalen is a sophomore Forensic Chemistry student with a minor in Law and Legal Studies and is in the WVUTeach program as well. She is Phi Sigma Pi Honors Fraternity here at WVU and is a delegate on the Profession Greek Council. She is looking to find ways to increase student use of physical space here on campus. This includes opening classroom space for study areas, using sports facilities to host student activities, and increasing outdoor availability on campus. She also wants to push for the continuation of Up All Night on both campuses post-COVID and elevate the student experience here at WVU. She wants students to be able to make use of everything WVU has to offer.
