Low tech solutions can be used to help students communicate and participate in classroom tasks. Examples include: single message switches, sequenced message switches, grid display devices and multi-level grid display message devices.
Another form of low tech would be an environmental control unit with a switch. This would also help a student to participate in classroom activities by turning on/off electronics such as a radio, blender, lights or a fan.
Switches can be connected to a switch interface so that the student can activate a computer. The switch interface allows the switch to act as a mouse. This allows a student to access a computer so they can participate in computer tasks and bypass the need for a touch pad or mouse. Switches can help students in a variety of ways and allow a student to gain more independence.
