Community Resources and Linkages

This tab helps provide links to services outside of the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV program which may be helpful for your child and family.

MIU IV does not specifically endorse or recommend participation in outside servicse, but may help support you in completing referalls and connecting you with community resources which you have determined to be beneficial for your child and family.

MIU IV staff may also consult with outside agencies when appropriate to provide the best support to your child across settings.

Medical Assistance

Medical Assistance helps pay for health services for eligible individuals. If your child has a medical diagnosis they may be eligible for Medical Assistance to help pay for outside therapy services. Some MIU IV staff are also able to bill for Medical Assistance to reimburse their services through a separate pool of funds provided to educators. Visit the Dept. of Human Services site for detailed instructions on how to apply for Medical Asssistance through their COMPASS Website.

Intensive Behavioral Health Services

Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) support children, youth, and young adults with mental, emotional, and behavioral health needs. IBHS offers a wide array of services that meet the needs of these individuals in their homes, schools, and communities. The IBHS website also provides links to help families search for providers in their area, learn more about the services offered and how to obtain those services.

Center for Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (ECMHC)

The Center for Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation was created through a grant from the Office of Head Start. Our target audience includes:

  • Mental Health Consultants

  • Head Start Program Administrators

  • Head Start Staff

  • Training & Technical Assistance Providers

  • Families

The Center translates research in healthy mental development into materials tailored to the needs of each of the target audiences, and makes them available on this website.

The Center gathers in one place a wide range of materials that address the needs of HS staff and families for practical guidance on effective ways to promote young children's social and emotional development, and reduce challenging behaviors.

Early Learning Resource Centers (ELRCs)

Pennsylvania's Early Learning Resource Centers (ELRCs) provide a single point-of-contact for families, early learning service providers, and communities to gain information and access services that support high-quality child care and early learning programs.

Outside Service Providers

Please visit the EI Provider List to find outside service providers in your county using the search bar. Outside services available may include speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, as well as others. If you are interested in outside services, feel free to reach out to your child's MIU IV Early Intervention therapist or teacher.

Parent to Parent

Parent to Parent links families of children and adults with special needs. In Pennsylvania, the Parent to Parent model is a one-to-one match between an experienced, mentor parent, called a peer support parent and a parent seeking individualized support from another parent who has been there.

Children's TiPS

Children’s TiPS is available to children and adolescents in western Pennsylvania who are insured by Pennsylvania’s Medical Assistance (Medicaid) Program, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and UPMC commercial insurance. Children’s TiPS is designed to help connect primary care clinicians with child psychiatrists. The program aims to improve behavioral health treatment for children in the state by providing psychiatric consultation to physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other prescribers of psychotropic medications.
