Research has shown that the skills your child needs to be successful in the future are social and emotional skills! The more socially skilled children are, the more likely they are to succeed in school. PBIS supports positive behavior for all students through explicit instruction, positive reinforcement, problem solving, and family engagement. PBIS includes procedures and processes intended for all students and all staff in all settings to create a safe and productive learning environment where teachers can teach and all students can learn.
PBIS utilizes the Pyramid Model: a framework for supporting the social and emotional development of our children. The goal of the Pyramid Model is to create an environment where every child feels good about coming to school. This is accomplished by designing classrooms that promote engagement in learning and by building positive relationships among children, families, and staff. In our use of the Pyramid Model, our classroom staff will work together to ensure that all children understand behavior expectations, receive instruction in social skills, and those who are struggling receive individual support.

Help motivate your child to engage in appropriate behaviors with the use of the positive behavior expectations matrix and sample reward charts. The behavior expectations have been created to use at home based on the behaviors your child has been learning in the classroom. The online and printable rewards charts can be used to reward the expected behavior throughout your child's day.
Remember to teach your child the expected behaviors and utilize positive language to encourage appropriate behavior. More detailed directions are included under the slides by clicking the 3 vertical dots and opening the speaker notes
Reach out to your Early Intervention teacher or therapist for more information and support on using positive behavior and reward charts at home.
The Backpack Connection Series was created by the Technical Assistance Center on Social Emotional Intervention and the Pyramid Model Consortium to provide a way for teachers and parents/caregivers to work together to help young children develop social emotional skills and reduce challenging behavior.

These printable social stories and visual expectations have been utilized in your child's classroom to help reinforce our classroom behavioral expectations. Please feel free to print and utilize with your child and adjust for the home environment. Your child may also benefit from discussing examples of how to be nice, safe, and a worker at home. Using this simple language during daily routines will help your child understand the behavior expectations at home.
