Overview:
Department of Physics is a VTU recognized research centre since August 2010. This research centre with sufficient area has basic facilities required to work on different fields of materials science and nanomaterials. Our faculty members have graduated doctoral degrees from premier universities and institutes also with post-doctoral experience in IITs. They are actively involved in the research activities with a special focus on frontier fields of materials science and nanotechnology. To state a few areas of research includes ceramics processing, polymers synthesis, and composite materials, single crystals etc. Among all, the prime focus of our research activity is on the synthesis of nano-structured materials like nanoparticles, nanotubes and nanocrystals using both top-down and bottom-up approach to use in potential applications including memory, and sensor application and their characterization.
Many of our faculty have also registered for the PhD from VTU and actively engaged in the research work in thrust areas of nanotechnology and materials science like non linear optical materials, ceramic processing, polymers synthesis, composite materials, single crystals etc.
The physics department has also successfully completed the DAE - BRNS project of Rs. 10.3 lakh on “A comparative study on radiation effects on multi-junction solar cells” sanctioned for a period of 3 years. The Vision Group of Science and Technology(VGST), Govt. of Karnataka has sanctioned Rs.60 Lakh under “Centre of Excellence in Science, Engineering and Medicine”, (CESEM) to establish centre of excellence and encourage research activities by attracting fresh talents in Universities and other higher educational Institutions towards research activities. The experimental and characterization tools like UV-Visible spectrometer (Perkin Elmer ) Precision source meter (Agilent), Ultrasonicator, DM water unit, Mixed-signal oscilloscope, chemical bench, stroboscope, solar power meters, etc are procured under the VGST grant. This research center has become the user facility for external research scholars since 2 years. Many research Scholars from different institutes are using facilities at our centre to carry out their research work.
