Overview:
The Department of PHYSICS was established in 2007 with the mission to feed the budding Engineers with finer aspects of science, which make them understand, exploit and innovate a new arena, which contributes to the technological advancement of tomorrow in the field of Physics at UG level.
The department has well-qualified staff members who have involved themselves in the welfare of the first-year students. They have a very good teacher-student interaction and all the teachers are student counsellors also. This ensures the good academic performance of the students. The department has maintained good results in every semester (Near to 100%). The H.O.D and staff members of Physics are involved in research on various active fields in physics such as electron irradiation on semiconductors, Non-linear optical materials and its characterization, Nano Science and Technology. It is proposed to have state-of-the-art laboratory facilities to support the research work in the above areas.
Vision
To enrich young minds with the knowledge of engineering physics in pursuit of excellence in education, research and technical service to the society.
Mission
· To inculcate analytical thinking in students thereby enabling them to contribute to the betterment of society
· To provide high-quality physics education and equipping students for higher studies
· To make a vital contribution to fundamental research
· To develop strategies in the department for the realization of institutional objectives of eminence and international standards.
Infrastructure
The department has a very good infrastructure consisting of 1936.8 sq feet laboratory with departmental library.
Major Equipment in the Lab for engineering students includes Ultrasonic Interferometer, Planck’s constant, Laser Diode Kit, Digital weighing balance, Servo Stabilizer, Spectrometer Grating, D.C regulated power supply single, D.C regulated power supply dual, Digital Milli ammeters etc.
We have a well-established Research Center recognized by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi which has successfully completed one project funded by DAE-BRNS, Government of India and 2 ongoing projects funded by VGST, Govt. of Karnataka and VTU Belagavi. This greatly helps to gain overall development in academic and teaching knowledge and to help the students for their academic excellence to reach global standards.
The major equipment included in the research lab: Apex Spin coating unit (Spin X), CVD Unit (Matrix instruments), UV spectroscopy (PerkinElmer), Hioki LCR meter, Precision source and measurement meter (Agilent technology), Muffle Furnace (Shreevani Traders), Hot Air Oven, pH meter, Distillation unit and Probe Sonicator.
