Celebration of National Mathematics day at MITE, 22nd December 2020
National Mathematics Day is observed on 22 December every year to mark the birth anniversary of legendary Indian mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan and his contributions to the field of mathematics. Mathematics day was celebrated at our institution on 22nd December 2020 with the objective of creating awareness about the importance of mathematics in day -to-day life situations.
We had Dr. Anusha L.S, Scientist, Max Plank Institute for Solar System Research, Germany, In webinar to give a talk on the topic “Importance of Mathematics in Engineering field and its relevance in research”.
Dr. Anusha puts out an insight that most people consider mathematics to comprise arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, and probability, a subset of logical thinking and/ or a mechanism for reasoning, mathematicians produced a paper wherein they stated “to know mathematics means to be able to do mathematics: to use mathematical language with some fluency, to do problems, to criticize arguments, to find proofs, and, what may be the most important activity, to recognize a mathematical concept in, or to extract it from, a given concrete situation”, she says Mathematics is behind design tools.
Therefore to raise awareness among people about the importance of mathematics every year Mathematics Day is celebrated. We had around 536 participants for the webinar. The webinar which was set up for the National Mathematics day was informative, engaged, and entertaining. This made the Mathematics day celebration a fruitful experience.
AICTE Sponsored Faculty Development Program held at our Institute on May 14th-16th, 2019

Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering, Moodbidri organised a Three days Faculty Development program for Student Induction ,sponsored by AICTE, New Delhi from May 14th to May 16th, 2019. The Inaugural function was held on May 14th, 2019 in the presence of Sri. Rajesh Chowta, Chairman, MITE, Mr. Ramesh N, Regional Officer, AICTE, Mrs. Vandana Singhal, State Academic Co-ordinator, AICTE, Prof. Chikkanna, VTU Co-ordinator, Mr. Dayal, AICTE, Mr. Uddhav Kumar, Resource Person for the FDP and Dr. G L Easwara Prasad, Principal, MITE. The main motive behind this workshop was to train faculties from various colleges who in turn shall facilitate the same to the students of their respective colleges. The importance of Student Induction in Engineering Course for the duration of three weeks was emphasized by Mr. Ramesh in the inuagural. He mentioned that AICTE has changed its form from being a regulatory body to facilitating body. The student induction program is designed to enhance the life skills of the students and turn them into a better individual, to help gain a holistic outlook to their aspiration and act selflessly on behalf of the society. Furthermore, to motivate the students to achieve excellence, de-stress them and help them understand their subjects beyond the scope of books and curriculum. Sri. Rajesh Chowta, Chairman, MITE appreciated the initiative taken by AICTE towards introducing Induction Program for first-year engineering students as it helps in familiarization of the new environment, identifying their talent, teaching them various professional etiquettes and promote bonding between the students. The workshop had 96 participants from various colleges of South India.The session started with the resource person Mr. Uddhav Kumar presenting the video of Prof. Rajeev Sanghal speaking about why this student induction program has to be conducted along with the procedure to be followed to conduct three week induction program along with testimonials. Further the resource person gave insights on importance of Universal Human values giving much emphasis on explaining the role of education as well as right understanding of self and body in order to find a perfect harmony between an individual , society and the nature.
Celebration of National Mathematics day at MITE, 28th December 2018
Mathematics is not about the numbers, equations, computations or algorithms, it is about understanding the universe and everything in it. Its beauty transcends above mere things. Mathematics is a place where you can do things which you can't do in the real world. Without mathematics, there's nothing you can do. If people do not believe that mathematics is simple, it is only because they do not realize how complicated life is - says John Louis von Neumann. To pay tribute to the great Mathematicians of India, enlightening the simple minds of students, the Department of Mathematics in association with MITE–ISTE chapter organised the celebration of National Mathematics Day on 28th December 2018. Dr. Jyothi S, Associate Prof. in Mathematics gave an insight on significance of celebrating National Mathematics Day. The Talk on ‘The Man who knew infinity’ was delivered by Dr.Asha Crasta, HOD, Department of mathematics, highlighting the life story and achievements of famous Mathematician Sri. Srinavasa Ramanujan. Dr. G.L. Easwara Prasad, Principal of MITE on this occasion delivered a motivational speech on importance of Mathematics in life. The session concluded with a puzzle solving exercise. There were around 110 participants.
