This excursion links closely with our inquiry unit and will help bring classroom learning to life!
In Health this week, students will be learning about cyber safety through the Catastrophe Scale. This activity encourages students to think carefully about online problems, rating them on a scale to decide whether an issue is a small problem they can handle themselves, or a bigger one that needs help from a trusted adult. Students will work through different scenarios and reflect on how to stay safe and make responsible choices online.
In Week 8, students will be learning all about the doubling rule for f,l,s. Students will explore how, in short words with a single vowel, the letters f, l, and s are often doubled at the end, for example: hill, puff, and miss.
This week, our comprehension focus will be on making text-to-text connections. Students will be encouraged to link themes from Migaloo to other stories they have read, helping them make meaningful connections between texts.
In Writing this week, we are starting our new focus on procedure writing. Students will be learning how to write clear steps to show how to do something. We will be getting creative by making fairy bread and then writing our own procedure about it!
The students were super excited to learn all about patterns! We explored categorising and sorting using skittles, and even created patterns using items in nature such as leaves, flowers, and twigs.
This week, students will extend their learning by recognising patterns in numbers. We will be focusing on skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s, helping students see how number patterns can make counting quicker and easier.

This project will give students the chance to practise organising their ideas, using factual language, and sharing their knowledge in a clear and engaging way.
The students have really enjoyed learning all about rounding and estimating. We have been using measuring tapes to help us round our numbers to the nearest 10!
In week 7, we are diving into the wonderful world of patterns! Students will explore patterns using colour, size, and shape. Students will take their learning outside on a nature walk to collect treasures that can be used to create their own repeating designs. We will also be making bright and colourful patterned Hungry Caterpillars!
In Health, students will be learning different ways to support a friend who has a problem. They will practise these ideas through role-plays and fun problem-solving activities, helping them to use these skills in everyday life.
Our next Humanities adventure is all about Oceans and sea life! Together, we’ll dive deep to discover the different zones of the ocean, explore lots of different marine creatures, and learn about the importance of coral reefs.
We are so excited to visit the Melbourne SeaLife Aquarium in week 8!

In Writing, students will be taking part in a very special global project! To go alongside our Inquiry unit, they will be writing a letter to the sea as part of “Letters to the Sea,” a worldwide initiative connected to the UN Ocean Conference.
These letters will be sent off to Ocean Decade and become part of a global collection, giving our students the chance to share their voices and ideas with the world!

We played memory addition in week 1 - a great game to play at home.
Make 4 rows of 5 cards and play memory to a given number (we started with ten to revise friends of ten)
There are lots of ways to make this game more challenging
One change we made was to make the target number 12 and use TWO or THREE cards to find the number.
During the game you should always ask your partner what card they are making to reach the target.
