In Health, we will be continuing our RSE lessons. Students will be learning to identify public and private places and how to keep our bodies safe.
We have been exploring community history and this week students will be looking at how specific technologies have changed over time. They will also be comparing past and present technologies to explain how these changes have made tasks easier or improved daily life.
In Reading, we are learning a new sound and all of the different ways we can spell it:
"ir" (stir) "ur" (surf) and "er" (fern)
We will continue our book "Bears Don't Read" and explore vocabulary from the text:
strolling (verb - moving)
gazed (verb - looking)
peculiar (adjective)
We continue with our information reports to wrap up Term 2. Students have been working really hard creating colourful and informative posters on a topic of their choice! From rockets and whales to spider monkeys and beyond!
We can't wait to see how they turn out.
Students have been reinforcing their number skills through engaging games like addition bingo and domino challenges. It’s been a great way to build confidence with sums while keeping things fun and interactive. A fantastic end to a busy term!

The Grade Ones LOVED their excursion to The Round and watching 'Peter and the Wolf.' This week we will be reflecting on our day out, discussing the significance of the Round and its change over time.
In Reading, we will be learning the difference between a base word and suffix. Students will be focusing on adding different suffix's to verbs.
Eg: "reading"
base word: "read"
suffix: "ing"
We are beginning a new storybook to wrap up Term 2. Our book is called 'Bears Don't Read' by Emma Chichester Clark.
We're excited to launch our Information Report writing in Week 10!
Students will be learning how to write clear and well-structured information reports, with a fun twist. They'll be the subject of their own reports! Each student will explore facts about themselves and present their ideas using engaging text, images, and diagrams.
We continue on our addition journey in Week 10. This week, students are exploring addition through vibrant activities featuring colourful cities and domino games. These hands-on experiences help deepen their understanding of number combinations and subitising!

Next week, we will be starting our RSE lessons. Students will identify and correctly name private body parts as say whether a body part is typically female, male or both.
For History we will be going on AN EXCURSION!
On Thursday, students will need to bring their snack and drink bottle in a small, named bag (possibly disposable) so that Mr Robertson can put them in a big tub and drive them to The Round.
While we are at The Round we will get to see a show called Peter and the Wolf which the students will explore in Performing Arts next term!
In Reading, we will be investigating the "ar" sound as in star, the "or" sound as in fork and the "ore" sound as in store.
We will learn the tricky words house, because and why.
In shared reading times, we will continue to enjoy the text The Pencil and learn more about key vocabulary words: announce, require, perfect
In writing we have been reflecting on our semester of learning by writing self evaluations.
We have spoken abotu work we are proud of, times we have got through tricky situations and identified our highlights.

We will have the opportunity to look back on the first half of Grade 1 and write about our most memorable experiences.
In week 8 we will continue to explore our unit on addition.
Students will be using mathemtical thinking to show numbers in different ways.

We will build our understanding of number bonds and partioning numbers into 2 or 3 parts.
We will also begin our unit on data collection. Students will have the opportunity to collect and record various sets of data such as favourite sports, favourite colours and cars in the staff carpark!
In reading we will be looking at adjectives and the "ue" sound in glue.
As part of Reconciliation Week we will also have the opportunity to explore Aboriginal Dreaming Stories as well as the mentor text "Welcome to Country" by Aunty Joy Murphy.
Next week we will begin our Community History unit. We will look at difference celebrations within our community and make a calendar for the events we celebrate and share the ways we do so.

We will be breaking numbers to 10 apart into 2 and 3 parts (partitioning)
A great game you may like to play at home is "get out of my house". You can use 6-sided dice with numbers up to 12, playing cards to 10 with numbers up to 20, addition, subtraction (even multiplication if you're really keen!) You don't need a board, just write the numbers 1-20 in boxes (kids can turn them into houses for some craft fun, too!
In Health, students will continue to explore their personal stengths and build their emotional literacy.
Together, they will build a strengths display in classrooms, showcasing all of their unique abilites.
Students will complete their final roation investigating Ancient Greece.

In Reading, students will be introduced to two new sounds:
'_y' (cry) and 'igh' (light)
They will explore 3 new Tricky words:
mother, father, brother
We will wrap up our fortnightly text 'Let's Get a Pup!' and explore some vocabulary words:
immediately, briefly and glance.
Students will revise how to plan, draft and publish their own narratives in week 5. We will revisit the story arc and look for ways to add details to our writing about characters and settings.
This week in Maths, we’re wrapping up our unit on teen numbers with a fun activity! We’re inviting students to bring in their favourite teddy bear with a 'teen' age - their classmates will try and guess their number. Please remind your child to bring their teddy to school this week.
Towards the end of the week, students will explore the concept of capacity.
In Health, students will continue to explore Personal and Cultural Strengths. Students will identify personal strengths and describe how these strengths are useful in school or family life
Students will continue investigating Ancient Greece with our first rotation for the term.
Just for a reminder, students will be learning about Ancient Greek:

In week 4, the students will be undertaking a Cumulative Review.
This is a great chance for teachers to complete one-on-one asssessment with each student. The assessment will cover all of the learning so far this year and include reading words, non-words, passage reading and spelling through word and sentence dictation.
Students will read the text Let's Get a Pup by Bob Graham and explore key comprehension strategies of predicting and re-telling.
In Writing, we will review expectations for book work including ruling and labeling our writing with a title. Students will have lots of practice to revise how to write on dotted thirds and where to start each letter.
We will then do some writing related to our mentor text Let's Get a Pup.
Students will continue to build understand of place value (of ten ones being 1 ten) by revisiting teen numbers including how to make them, compare them, record and spell them.
Students will explore the concept of mass.
In Health, students will be exploring their own personal strengths. We will identify the importance of listening as a key skill for learning. This will be learnt through the traffic light game.
Students will continue their investigation into Ancient Greece! We will be learning all about God's and Goddesses, the Parthenon and The Olympic games.
The students will be revising the tricky words:
who, many, any, love, over, says. We will be reviewing our concepts we have learnt so far such as super sentences, nouns, verbs and homophones.
We will finish our fortnightly picture story book Edwina the Emu.
This week, students will be engaging in topic writing including Star Wars Day (May 4th) and Mothers Day. We will be unpacking letter writing and talking about what makes our incredible Mums so special.
Students will continue building their knowledge of two-digit numbers with a focus on teen numbers.
We will be heading outside and collecting twigs to bundle to ten. We will be learning how to say teen numbers as "10 and some more."
In Health, students will be revisiting Kimochis! We are learning to explore how Kimochis can help with our emotions.
Students will begin their investigation into Ancient Greece! We will be learning all about God's and Goddesses, the Parthenon and The Olympic games.
In week 2, the students will be reviewing the tricky words:
your, again and home. We will be reading, writing and spelling words with the digraphs ea, ee, oa and ow.
As a class we will be reading a new picture story book 'Edwina the Emu.'
In Writing, we will continue to look at Narratives. Students will be planning and writing stories focusing on characters and settings. We will be planning stories using the following planning template: SWBST
Students will be revisitng place value with the focus of building our knowledge of two-digit numbers. Hands on materials such as abacuses, pipe cleaners and beads will be used to support the students learning.
