“It’s the Super Bowl of Kennett”, says Dustin Digges, 31, as he describes the 2024 Delta Fair Demolition Derby. He embodies the spirit of the derby and his late-father’s passion for being out under the lights. This annual event is more than just a spectacle of crumpling metal and roaring engines; it is a unifying force that brings together families, friends, and neighbors, fostering a sense of belonging and pride in local culture.
On the surface, the goal of the Derby is simple — destroy all other cars until one remains. Just like all great things, in order to accomplish that goal many elements need to align: passion, teamwork, knowledge, and most importantly the spirit of the relentless pursuit. Despite losing the last couple of competitions, Dustin’s eagerness to get back out there is what drives him to keep competing.
