FAQ

Q: We had a Shmoop subscription through the OSP last year, can we renew our existing subscription?

A: Yes, subscriptions distributed last year through the Online Subscription Package will renew and your progress will continue. Unfortunately, if you're transferring from another school, your previous progress cannot be transferred.

Q: What is the A LA CARTE price for the Shmoop (Middle School) subscription?

A: A LA CARTE pricing will only be available through the Homeschool Hub (HUB). Pricing is discounted based on the retail cost of each subscription.

Please refer to the OSP A LA CARTE ordering instructions for how to order in the EOS. Once the subscription has been selected you will be able to view the price.

Q: What courses are available on Shmoop for middle school students?

A: Please click here for the list of middle school courses available.

Q: Are there science courses on Shmoop for middle school students?

A: No, there are not grade specific science courses for middle school students in Shmoop.

Q: How does my middle school student get started with Shmoop?

A:   Once your student receives their Shmoop login information they may immediately begin taking courses on schools.shmoop.com.

Q: How do I access my student's progress and grade their assignments?

A:   First, you will need to create a teacher account (using the Shmoop "magic word" for your school).  Once you've create your teacher account, you will need to create a classroom for your student(s), add the desired courses to the classroom, and invite your student(s) to the classroom.  If you do not follow these steps, you will not be able to manage/grade or view your student's progress from the teacher account.

Following is a helpful video tutorial on Grading in Shmoop.

Q: Can both the parent and HST have access to the student's courses/progress in Shmoop?

A:  We will provide both the parent and teacher with the Shmoop "magic word" to create a teacher account.  However, students can only have one teacher per course/classroom.  Therefore, the parent and teacher will need to collaborate and decide who will have primary access and responsibility for managing and grading the student's courses in Shmoop.

If the HST and parent agree to allow the parent primary access/responsibility then the parent will need to share their Shmoop account access to allow the HST the ability to review and track the student's progress as required.

Q: Can my students share a Shmoop subscription?  Or, they each need their own account?

A:  Unfortunately, student licenses for Shmoop cannot be shared.  Each student will need their own account.

Q: Do I need a separate teacher account for each student (if I have 2 or more students using Shmoop)?

A:  No, you will not need a separate teacher account for each student.  We recommend creating a separate classroom for each student so you can distinguish between each students courses. , student licenses for Shmoop cannot be shared.  Each student will need their own account.

Q: Does the Shmoop teacher account includes all the teacher guides?

A: Shmoop teacher accounts are free and do not include teacher guides.  Teachers will only have access to create classrooms and assign/grade student courses.

Q: What is the Shmoop Magic Word to create a parent/teacher account?

A: Please refer to the specific school name for the correct magic word.
