“I Can Statements” will help to identify the learning goals for your child for their grade level. At each learning period meeting, we will work together to identify which I Can Statements your child will be learning during each learning period.
Star 360 is an adaptive online assessment for math and language arts. Students in 1-12th will be proctored by a teacher in zoom. TK and Kindergarten will take the assessment with their learning coach, parent, or guardian. Each part of the Star 360 assessment takes only 20-30 minutes to complete.
Students will take it three times a year - in the fall, winter, and spring. This is a great tool to use to show growth and to see what your students need to work on.
Students in grades 3-8 and 11th grade take the CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) in Language Arts and Math each spring. These tests are administered by MVA teachers and are typically spread out over 4-5 days, depending on your child's grade level and whether they are also taking the CAST (California Science Test).
To ensure students are focused and perform their best, we break the test into smaller sessions to reduce testing fatigue. The CAASPP includes four separate assessments: two for Math and two for Language Arts.
To help students prepare, there are printable practice tests that mirror the types of questions they’ll encounter on the CAASPP.
It’s also important for students to familiarize themselves with the online testing platform. This will help them navigate the test more easily on test day. Here is information on how to take a CAASPP practice test online.
By practicing and getting comfortable with the format, students will feel more confident and ready for the actual test.
State testing is important because it helps show how much our students are growing and learning. When our students perform well on these tests, it highlights the effectiveness of our programs, which is key to ensuring our charter is renewed and our school continues to thrive. These tests also give us helpful information to guide instruction and make sure we’re meeting the needs of all our students.
