LRMS PRIESTS IN THE DIOCESE OF ARMIDALE
LRMS PRIESTS IN THE DIOCESE OF ARMIDALE
After few months in the Cathedral, they were sent to different parish assignments both as assistant parish priest. Since September, Fr. Clarence has been actively fulfilling his role at the parish of St. Nicholas Church in East Tamworth while Fr. Mario was serving at St. Edward’s Parish in South Tamworth first for just five months and later in February of this year was transferred for the same role at St. Joseph Parish, Gunnedah. The ministries that they have been doing include celebrating the Sacraments in the Parish, in the nursing homes and retirement village, visiting parishioners in their homes and hospitals, celebrating Mass in the schools and outstation churches, as well as doing supply role in some parishes when a parish priest or administrator is on a holiday or emergency leave.
The abovementioned ministries are not actually as easy as they are simply enumerated. The outstations are already a challenge. It takes a long distance to get to the outstation church and celebrate the sacraments there. For example, in the case of St Joseph Church in Gunnedah where the writer is currently assigned, the parish includes four outstations, namely Mullaley, Boggabri, Tambar Springs, and Maules Creek. The number of kilometers needed to take to get to each of the place are 40 kms, 39 kms, 63 kms, and 83 kms respectively. Furthermore, the thing that adds to the distance are the number of parishioners present when a religious activity is celebrated at their place. The few numbers of mass-goer present affirm that Australia is indeed a mission opportunity land. Fr. Clarence and Mario are in their four-years on-loan contract with the Diocese of Armidale. Prayers that everything goes well with their ministry as they continue to minister to the people of Armidale and the Church in Australia at large.
