MIDKIFF ELEMENTARY MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Midkiff Elementary is to promote the academic, social and emotional development of all students through a comprehensive school counseling program. We strive to create a safe and inclusive environment that fosters students’ individual strengths and abilities, and empowers them to reach their full potential. Our goal is to help students develop the necessary skills and attitudes to become responsible citizens, lifelong learners, and successful contributors to society. We are committed to collaborating with families, educators, and community members to support the well-being of every student and to promote a culture of respect, kindness, and empathy.
Our program is built on the four core components of the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs:
Guidance Curriculum: Proactive lessons that teach students social-emotional and academic skills.
Individual Planning: Helping students set and reach their personal and academic goals.
Responsive Services: Addressing immediate student needs through counseling and crisis intervention.
System Support: Collaborating with staff, parents, and the community to support the counseling program.
Midkiff Elementary counselors are responsive to our campus needs and follow the Texas Model and state law (TEC 33.005) to provide services.
Our counseling department is dedicated to helping every student at Midkiff Elementary achieve academic success, emotional and social well-being, and become productive citizens. We believe every student deserves a safe and supportive learning environment.
We are committed to working with all members of our community—students, parents, staff, and community partners—to ensure the academic and social-emotional success of all our students. This commitment is supported by the following assumptions:
Midkiff Elementary counselors will follow the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs.
The counseling department will be allocated a budget to effectively implement programs and services.
Counselors will use data from Needs Assessments to identify and respond to the specific needs of our students and campus throughout the school year.
The school and district will clearly define and support the role of counselors on our campus, allowing them to focus on providing direct services to students.
DEVELOPING GOALS
At Midkiff, we counselors use a clear, data-informed process to develop counseling goals based on local needs. We use data from counseling needs assessments, teacher input, and counselor referrals.
We counselors take a purposeful and strategic approach by using SMART goals. This helps us address areas of greatest need and monitor our interventions effectively. By making sure our goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound, we align our program with the school's mission. This approach ensures our program contributes significantly to student success and overall school objectives.
EVALUATING OUR PROGRAM
At Midkiff, we as counselors evaluate the effectiveness of our program by gathering data from surveys, counseling needs assessments, and observations. We thoroughly analyze this data to identify strengths and areas for improvement. The insights we gain enable us to make informed decisions and implement necessary adjustments. These actions promote continuous improvement and ensure our program's overall effectiveness is maximized.
