It was so lovely to meet you at our PUENTE Bienvenida!
I am Violeta Sánchez and I am so excited to be your PUENTE Profe for your ENGL 100 class! You can call me Doctora Sánchez, Doctor Sánchez, Dr. V, Profe Sánchez or just Profe--whatever one of those options feels good to you!
Please read this syllabus to get a sense of what our class will be like. In it you will access our class schedule, information about our class materials, contact information for myself and our embedded writing consultants, information about grades will work (or not work, LOL) in this class, and links to campus resources that can help you succeed in my class and beyond. Save this page to your devices so you can easily access it.
The other online resource that will be really important for you will be our Canvas page. On it, you will find class materials (other than the textbooks you've been given), important class and PUENTE announcements, and it will be where you submit most of your writing assignments and projects. Please check your Canvas page often and make sure you complete your reading and writing assignments. Our classes will work best when we all come having read and written what has been assigned.
If you want to know a little bit about my journey as a scholar and educator, please check out "A Letter from Your Profe." But if you want to know a little bit more about me on a personal level, I want you to know that: I am a lover of pop culture, I love to cook and eat, I love my dogs (although one of them is a lot of work!), I have two human children, and that while I've always loved writing, I've been to afraid to share this love beyond my classroom. The pandemic challenged and pushed all of these loves in my life, and so far what I've learned is this: flour tortillas from scratch are the best, being stuck in my home with my family was both THE BEST and THE WORST, and I love to connect with people through reading and writing. I am looking forward to connecting with you.
I am excited about learning with you and from you this semester in our class and through the other opportunities we will have as part of the PUENTE program!
Con cariño,
Dr. Violeta Sánchez <3
