This class is a pre-requisite for every other ag class! This class is fast-paced, hands-on, and explores the agriculture industry and Minico FFA.

Intro to Livestock
If you enjoy animals and learning about animals, this class is a great one for you! Emphasis on this class will be on different classes of livestock, livestock evaluation, breeds, and general care.

Intro to Ag Mechanics
While this class loves to get in the shop and do some welding as often as possible, this class also focusses on other shop processes including small engines, electricity, tool identification, basic plastic pipe work, and more!

Learn all about some of the very most important things to life - soil and plants! Basic soil science and crop science are the focus of this class!

There is no class more hands-on than this one! Everybody should have a class to play in the "dirt" once a day! This class will get real life experience planting and propogating plants with the semester project running the Spartan Gardens Greenhouse! This is a 1 hour class that will be held during the spring semester.

Learn a little more about plant anatomy and design principles in this floral design class! This class will prepare all students to participate in the floriculture CDE.

Plant Science Capstone
Successful completion of the Intro class, an intermediate plant science class, and the capstone course and passing the Technical Skills Assessment could lead to a potential 3 or 4 college credits in plant science through CSI.
This class should be taken your junior or senior year after you have taken plant science (at a minimum).
This class will be held at the same time as another plant science class or greenhouse and you will do some independent study. It can be flexible to your schedule and can fit in your schedule as needed.

Small Animal Care (2023-24)
If you thought you had taken every animal science class - think again! Check out this new addition for 2023-24 school year! This class will focus on caring for small animals including poultry, rabbits, fish, and pets. The focus of this class will be on responsible pet ownership.

Another new addition to the Minico Agriculture line-up! This class will combine Intro to Livestock Management and Animal Science to put it all together into actual management practices. We hope this class will be hands-on and experience based. Prepare to get your hands dirty!

Fish & Wildlife
This class may be the most fun of any at Minico High School! The focus of this class is a balance of natural resources including responsible harvest of fish and wildlife. The popular project in this class is building your own fishing pole (there is a fee for this!).

Animal Science Capstone Course
Upon successful completion of Introduction to Livestock, and an intermediate animal science course (any of the others!), students can sign up for the capstone course to prepare for the Technical Skills Assessment. If students pass that, they can earn 3-4 college credits in animal science from CSI!

Food Science
This course is essential for living in the Mini-Cassia area! Food science and the food processing industry is vital to our community! This class is NOT a culinary class (we have an EXCELLENT option for that! Check out the FCS program!). This class focusses on the science behind foods and the food processing industry. Topics include sensory evaluation, sugar crystallization & carmelization, the effects of pH on levening, and SO much more! This class is very heavy on labs!

This class is aligned with the consumer economics standards required to meet economics graduation credit. All economics principles are taught with a focus on farm business management. The final for this class is a completed FFA State Degree or FFA Proficiency Application.

It includes a study of economic principles, budgeting, recordkeeping, finance, risk management, business law, marketing, and careers in agribusiness.

Ag Biology
Meet your high school biology graduation requirement by taking Ag Biology! Learn life science or biology principles by applying concepts to agriculture experiences that make biology relevant! Students will be introduced and provided an opportunity to be proficient in all state biology/life science standards. This class is phenomena-based and led through inquiry.

Ag Welding 1
This is the first welding class to take. Students will focus on shop safety and learning to weld starting with SMAW processes. Students may need to take this course multiple semesters to gain skills enough to advance to Ag Welding 2.
Ag Welding 2
This is the second class to take in the welding program. Mastery of Ag Welding 1 is expected prior to taking this class. This course will continue to weld symbols, bills of materials, reading plans, and SMAW processes.
Ag Welding 3
After Ag Welding 1 and 2 are mastered, test your skills in this 2-hour block class building projects brought in by community members or by yourself! This class was previously known as Ag Fabrications.
Work Co-Op
As or after you complete Plant Science Capstone, Animal Science Capstone, or Ag Welding 3, put your skills to the test in the real world! If you have a work placement in that area, you can take work co-op for up to 2 class periods per semester. You are required to enter your hours in your AET record book, but you can earn high school credits while you are earning money!

Feed your competitve nature and perfect your skills in this class specifically designed to focus on you and your personal growth. Choose your focus area in any Leadership Development Event Area and receive individual focus and coaching to help YOU achieve your goals. This class would be an excellent class for the entire officer team as well! Focused time to plan and execute a great 2023-24 Program of Activities!
