No, it is professional development training in science based literacy instruction.
Wisconsin State Law (Act 20 Legislation) requires all K5-3rd grade teachers to be trained in science-based literacy instruction. Thirty-nine other states have similar laws because there is a reading crisis in our country.
By July 1, 2025, all individuals employed as kindergarten through third grade teachers, including reading teachers, special education teachers, and teachers of multilingual learners, will need to begin receiving specific professional development training in science-based reading instruction.

Not at this time. There are a limited number of licenses, and we have to ensure that everyone who is required by law to take this training (K5-3rd grade classroom teachers) receives it first.
There is different training for K3/K4 teachers called LETRS Early Childhood. It was offered the first round of district training, but not this time. There are currently no plans to offer LETRS Early Childhood soon.

The books began arriving in buildings Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Some schools may be short if they did not originally report the correct number of teachers who needed the training. Additional books will be sent to schools as soon as possible but everyone will be okay with the handouts for the training.

The online work is optional but encouraged. You will be asked to complete the bridge to practice activities which is the application of the learning and can be incorporated into lesson planning.
No. All training will take place on district PD days and not after school or Saturdays.
