This page consists of studies of childhood elements: kites, origami, fantasies, candy stores, etc. In Old Corner Called Home, my grandparent’s figures haggling at a local shop for the freshest fish and vegetables so they could cook me dinner. This piece reminisces the harmonious lighting and the familiar surroundings. I hoped to pause time at that moment.

One big culture shock I experienced as an international student was food. In this painting, I merged my favorite Chinese dishes my family makes for Lunar New Year’s Eve with a traditional Thanksgiving meal and contrasted my childhood self to the present.

Growing up visiting the Forbidden Palace every weekend, I developed a strong attachment to the red brick walls and yellow tile rooftops. My journey then brought me to boarding school in Boston, where instead of traditional Chinese architecture, I’d see the Boston skyline every day. Within me, these steps are retraced, and these colorful experiences are merged in harmony.
