At Advanced Higher pupils will carry out independent research and analysis of the impact of mental, emotional, social and physical factors impacting on performance. This will be carried out in an activity of the pupils choosing. Pupils will identify through research suitable data gathering methods that can be used to investigate the impact the four factors are having on their performance.
Pupils will be required to demonstrate an understanding of approaches to develop performance through creating and justifying the structure of a Personal Development Programme that they will use to develop their identified area for development. Pupils will also be required to analyse and evaluate this process of performance development before identifying and justifying next steps for future development.
At the end of the academic year pupils will be credited with an SQA award depending on the result of their 'one-off performance' in an activity of their choosing (30%) and their final project (70%). For more information please read below or alternatively speak to a member of the PE department.
At Advanced Higher level practical will be limited with the majority of the course being classroom based. Pupils will be given some support with gathering data on their performance during class time (where possible) however pupils are expected to carry out their Personal Development Programme either in conjunction with their existing training or outwith school time.
Pupils will be set regular assignment tasks that will contribute towards aspects of their final project. It is expected that pupils at Advanced Higher level are able to independently time manage and meet deadlines set for these assignments. If pupils are unable to meet these deadlines they should speak to their class teacher before the submission date.
Below is a more detailed outline of what will be covered over the year. This may change slightly as the year progress however it is worth noting the assignment deadlines.
