Spring is in the air and will be arriving in Millbrook on 3/20/26! The spring always brings about so many needed changes and 2026 is no different. I genuinely cannot believe that we are including Spring Break on the upcoming “dates to note.” In the past month, we have had so many wonderful celebrations including our PEACE Breakfast, honoring our students on the Principal’s List/Honor Roll, and the STEAM Fair. We recently met with all of our students to have discussions regarding expectations to close out the year and planning for the upcoming school year. If you and your child have not filled out your enrichment choices for next year, please make sure to do so. We are so excited for end of the year capstone field trips, State testing, field day and so much more. As Spring approaches, we look forward to our many incredible end of the year events, GO BLAZERS!
Attendance, lateness, and student sign-outs will be handled in the main office. Call 677-4210, x3129 to report an absence as soon as possible in the morning. An email communication to to our attendance office is an acceptable and legal form of communication: mms.attendance@millbrookcsd.org . Please call the main office in the case of an extended absence (two or more days) so that we are aware. To prevent your child from becoming overwhelmed by catching up on assignments, please be sure that work is done and submitted in a timely fashion so long as your child is well enough to complete it.

World Language Decision for 6th Grade
Sixth graders at Millbrook Middle School are embarking on an exciting journey this month as they explore French and Spanish before selecting a language to study in seventh grade. Students have been engaging with French teacher Victoria Harb and Spanish teacher Robert Gehlhoff during two interactive sessions designed to introduce them to each language and culture.
On Friday, Jan. 23rd, students participated in engaging activities such as introducing themselves in the target language, exploring French- and Spanish-speaking countries and playing an educational Kahoot trivia game. A second session on February 20th gave students another opportunity to ask questions and continue to familiarize themselves with the two languages. Students made their final language selection on February 27th, setting the stage for their future world language studies in the district. Please discuss these options with your child before they submit their final decision.
Congratulations to our sixth grade students for reaching this exciting educational milestone in their Millbrook journey!

2026-27 Enrichment Courses & Acceleration
Acceleration @ MMS
The two accelerated courses offered for students are Regents Algebra I Common Core and Regents Earth Science. These classes may include regular Regents level course students in 9th grade. Accelerated courses are demanding and require students to use their time wisely to maximize their learning experience and academic success . Balancing one or more of these courses can be difficult as both courses are common core aligned and rigorous. Accelerated science includes an every other day lab that MUST be completed in order to receive course credit. Final grades and Regents exam results will become part of your child’s permanent high school transcript. School monitors from MHS and MMS will be stationed to oversee students as they walk between buildings. Teachers will make allowances so that students do not miss instruction. All teachers will be available after school for any extra help students might want or need throughout the year to best support their learning. As a building we monitor our students' progress in both Math and Science to recommend students whom we believe will be successful in an advanced and accelerated rate of study. Students who are recommended will receive a letter in the mail in April.

Enrichment @ MMS
Enrichment courses at MMS are every other day classes that are graded on a pass/fail basis. We offer many options for students to choose an area of interest. A presentation was held where all students were shown their options for next school year. Students submitted their choices using a Google Form and ranked their choices 1-3. Over the course of 7th and 8th grade we ensure getting students their first choice and work to give all students a wide variety of experiences in enrichment. Ms. Domino, MMS School Counselor, will be meeting with all students to discuss their choices, future plans and to discuss your child's progress here at MMS and beyond.
Band
Middle school band members perform several concerts throughout the year and gain mastery on their chosen instrument. Members of the concert band ensembles meet every other day to rehearse as a group and are given a rotating lesson once every 6 days. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Trills and Thrills festival competition at Lake Compounce!
Chorus
Middle school chorus members perform several concerts throughout the year and gain mastery in their vocal range. Members of the concert chorus ensembles meet every other day to rehearse as a group. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Trills and Thrills festival competition at Lake Compounce!
Enriched Studio in Art/Graphic Design:
Enriched Art meets utilizes both the art room and the Mac lab. Students will be held to a higher standard than previous years in art, and will be expected to give 100% at all times in this class. Students will be learning not only new skills, but how to be an all-around artist and work like a professional in the field. The students are given more freedom in choosing their methods of creating and have more time to reach new depths and understandings of art through a full year course. They will be completing projects and using traditional studio materials as well as the computer to create graphics and digital art using the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite. Students will create an online digital portfolio that is worked on and updated throughout the year.
Introduction to Culinary Arts:
Students explore topics that pertain to culinary arts. Specifically, food sustainability, knife skills, culinary career paths, level two cooking skills and technological applications in culinary. Students explore these topics over 40 weeks to develop their independent skills through authentic situations that create a student with 21st century skills.
STEM 7 / 8:
Students will use the Engineering Design Process to investigate, test, and solve various problems and challenges. Projects will consist of both independent and group work collaborations. The course is pass/fail and no homework outside of class. This class is project based and meets every other day throughout the year.
Physical Education Wellness Plus:
Students will enhance their skills in team and individual sports as in the regular level PE class. In addition, they will have the opportunity to study and research all aspects of wellness, including fitness levels. Additional activities will be developed by the instructor with input from 10 students, e.g., outdoor adventure courses. Strong athletic talent is not a requirement; however, the ideal student has a real interest in wellness and is committed to full participation and engagement in the learning experiences that will be provided.
Press Room:
Press Room is a student driven writing elective. Students will create, write, edit, and publish a finished product that will take the form of either a newspaper or magazine, with issues published every 4-6 weeks. Students will largely choose what they would like to report on but should consider the timeliness, proximity, and magnitude of topics. Students electing to participate in Press Room should be self-motivated and willing to work towards a collaborative and common goal.
On February 15, 2026, we celebrated National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, a day established by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) to recognize the dedication and hard work of school-based law enforcement officers. Deputy Freer is more than just a presence in our hallways—he is a mentor, a role model, and a trusted resource for our school community. Whether building positive relationships with students, providing valuable safety education, or responding swiftly to any concerns, his commitment to our school is unwavering.
At MMS, we are incredibly grateful for Deputy Freer, who goes above and beyond to ensure the safety, well-being, and success of our students and staff.
National School Counseling Week is celebrated annually during the first full week of February. School counselors make a difference every day, supporting students in their academic, social-emotional, and career journeys. We are so fortunate to have such an incredible person as part of our educational family. Thank you Ms. Domino for all you do for our students!
Ms. Domino will be taking maternity leave following spring break. We wish her the best and are excited to welcome her leave replacement Ms. Flynn.

Health Tip of the Month
The New York State Office of mental Health (OMH) recently launched the statewide ‘Be Well’ campaign to help people understand the importance of mental wellness and the impacts of stress and trauma. The Be Well website gives New Yorkers accessible tips and free ways to improve their well-being. This campaign features ads and a website offering simple, straight-forward information on mental wellness, including:
· Using breathing to calm and reset.
· Practicing mindfulness and gratitude.
· Fostering resilience.
· Finding strategies to cope.
· Understanding how stress affects our bodies.
· Learning about the impact of trauma.
The site is user-friendly, available in multiple languages, and provides direct links to immediate crisis supports. Ads have been running in English and Spanish in nearly every medium throughout the state, including on social media, digital platforms, public transit, billboards, geofencing, radio, and on television – both cable and streaming services. These commercials will even appear in local markets during the Super Bowl this weekend.
Please help promote this campaign by sharing it with your colleagues and remember to Be Well!
