❏ Start a college binder or use the College Mastersheet Model (bit.ly/CollegeMastersheet) to outline your goals and keep college and career research organized.
❏ Sign into SchooLinks with your counselor during class-time this year.
❏ Use SchooLinks and College Research Links to search for colleges and careers that interest you.
❏ Sign up for classes that challenge you, interest you, and fit your future goals.
❏ Make an appointment with your counselor if you want to discuss course options.
❏ Research several careers or occupations that appeal to you and interview/talk to adults you might know in those careers. Shadow the career one day this summer. Consider finding a mentor in the career who can help you clarify your goals.
❏ Look up how much those careers pay and expected job outlooks through http://www.onetonline.org How do degrees transfer to lifetime earnings?
❏ Summer Reading & Summer Homework -- Please make sure to complete summer reading and AP summer homework, if applicable. The Summer Reading Website will list all requirements for summer work. AP teachers will contact students with any summer work.
❏ SchooLinks-- Use SchooLinks to look up potential colleges and careers. Log-in with Clever or Google Single Sign-On. Parents who would like their own account should contact Darragh Naylor at naylor_d@milfordschools.org.
❏ Get Involved -- Beyond using the career and college search and preparation tools in SchooLinks , students could also consider completing some exploratory experiences over the summer. Students could also visit 1-2 colleges to start getting an idea of what types of schools interest them.
❏ Great Oaks -- Next year, students will be begin exploring Great Oaks options. Please use SchooLinks career research and the Great Oaks website to see if any of the programs are of interest to you. We will have Great Oaks interests meetings during English classes in December and field trips in January.
❏ Mark Your Calendar -- College 101 is the largest college event of the year at Milford HS. At this event, you will be able to attend a financial aid information presentation and hear about the steps that freshmen and sophomores need to take to prepare for college. This event takes place every year in late August or early September. Keep an eye on your school email for more information.
