Voices of Black Mothers United
What is the Pledge?
The Student Pledge Against Gun Violence is a national observance giving students throughout the country the chance to sign a voluntary promise that they will:
never carry a gun to school
never resolve a dispute with a gun
use their influence with their friends to keep them from resolving disputes with guns
The Pledge honors the role that young people, through their own decisions, can play, in reducing gun violence. It encourages young people to take a proactive stance in reducing Gun Violence.
The Pledge began in 1996. Over 10 million students have signed the pledge.
Under Alabama law, it is “harm or threatened harm to a child’s health or welfare which can occur through non-accidental physical or mental injury; sexual abuse or attempted sexual abuse; sexual exploitation or attempted sexual exploitation.”
