Get Involved in Serving your Community!
Serving others is a beautiful way to build compassion, perseverance, cooperation, and responsibility. Community Service activities are those that assist other people or the community itself for which the student receives neither pay, prizes, nor academic credit. Any time you provide a service to a person (other than a family member) and receive no compensation, you are providing community service. Some community service/volunteer activities for middle school students include:
Birmingham Zoo
McWane Center
Humane Society
Public Library
Opportunities through churches
Opportunities through school-sponsored organizations
Retirement Homes and/or Senior Centers
Food Banks
Hospitals
Homeless Shelters
Community Fund-Raising Events
Political Campaigns
Babysitting (not for a relative and without pay)
Yard work (not for a relative and without pay)
Pet sitting (not for a relative and without pay)
These are just a few ideas. There are many ways to be active in the community and provide service to others!
Students may pick up Community Service Forms in the main office during the school year.
For recognition at the May Awards Day Assembly, students must complete at least sixty (60) hours of community service. Hours must be submitted by the Friday after Spring Break.
