All students at MCSCS participate in school wide enrichment opportunities that focus on having a STEM mindset including the valuable skills of communication, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking. Students will participate in different learning activities such as project based learning, collaborative learning and problem solving challenges to foster these valuable skills. Teachers also differentiate learning within their classrooms to allow for gifted students to thrive in the classroom.
In addition to classroom enrichment opportunities, students who are identified during the annual gifted and talented screening as needing additional to reach their potential, will also participate in pull out services that focus on supporting their academic and social emotional needs. These pull out services will be tailored to the skills and interests of the individuals in the pull out groups.
Each new school year a new group of students will be identified for the pull out services. Your child will be assessed each year to ensure that we provide these services to the students who need it the most. Your child may move in and out of the pull out services from year to year as they change and grow as a learner. If your child does not participate in the pull out program it does not mean that they are no longer gifted, it simply means that there are other ways that their academic strengths are being supported in the classroom.
