Who should take the placement exam:

No formal placement exam is offered for mathematics; you should consult the following website and use your previous math class experience to determine the best class for you.

You can also gain additional insight into the appropriate level of calculus for you by completing the Calculus Placement Survey. The Calculus Placement Survey is a self-administered collection of exercises that help inform your discussion with math faculty. 

 

We do our best to place students in the course that will be best for them, and that will be best for their classmates. This means we do not permit students to enroll in a course below the level described by the placement process. 

 

If you are not sure how the placement chart applies to you, or if you think you would do best in a course different from the one indicated by the placement process, there will also be opportunities for you to speak with math faculty before registration(see the contact window below). This will allow you to consult personally with someone who can help you interpret the information on the website above.

Mathematics faculty will hold a drop-in session via Zoom for students wishing to discuss placements and/or ask questions. These sessions will take place:

 

June 11 4pm-6pm ET

June 14 10am - 1pm ET

Once you have an appointment, you will be sent a Zoom link. 

 

Before your meeting, you should attempt the Calculus Placement Survey and be prepared to share any notes or solutions you have from your attempt.
