MICDS Virtual Herbarium

Dedicated to identification and appreciation of native Missouri plants on MICDS Upper School Campus

Purpose

The beauty of the MICDS campus includes a variety of native Missouri plants, all across the Upper School Campus. Our goal is to provide online access to virtual herbarium specimens for the purpose of identification. The goals of the MICDS Virtual Herbarium are to make specimen data available to the entire community: to help individuals recognize the variety of plants around us, to make it easier to learn taxonomy, and to boost appreciation of the plethora of native plants we come in contact with each day.

For each species you have access to a variety of information including: a scanned photograph of a plant voucher specimen, information on its taxonomic status, habit, habitat, botanical description, locality of collection, local name, and name of the student scientist who contributed this information.

We plan to continue to document more plants in the coming years, so continue to revisit this site to find out new information on other species in the next school years.
