This project was my first experience with our Wood Shop and the power tools within it. I enjoyed using them, and I anticipate the ways I'll be able to use them in the future to make models of my designs. However, this design specifically explored the relationship between Dominant, Subdominant, and Subordinate figures within a form. We were given 3 types of wood and were tasked with combining them in a way that would show our understanding of joints and the relationship between Dominant, Subdominant, and Subordinate figures.
Below are my notational sketches and thought process laid out, along with my final design.
Below, I translated my design into a wooden form. Notice how Dominant, Subdominant, and Subordinate figures relate through movement.

I enjoyed how this project encouraged me to think about form and the different elements that influence it. I anticipate further exploring the ways the relationships between the Dominant, Subdominant, and Subordinate figures interact, as well as how these relationships change when considering positive and negative space. This project challenged me to think beyond the way I instinctively design forms and into the possible implications for larger models and designs.
