Precisionist Relief
Precisionist Relief
This project was inspired by the precisionist movement that emerged in the 1920s and 1930s. Precisionist art features precise, sharp lines, geometric simplification of forms, and a smooth, unmodulated color palette. More specifically, we looked at the works of Charles Sheeler, Charles Demuth, and Georgia O'Keeffe. The artwork I chose to recreate was Ballardvale by Charles Sheeler. I remade the colors and assembled the geometric pieces with attention to elevation and the contrast I could create between the foreground and background.
Below is the original Ballardvale by Charles Sheeler, as well as 3 photos of my inspired work, with emphasis on elevation and composition.
