Sample Lesson Plans
This plan was created and executed in a peer teaching experience. The game is a simple freeze dance with the twist being about dynamics. Pairs well with marches and other forms of music with large contrast. A great way to start a class and involve both movement and mental engagement.
Created for the 1st grade level, this lesson is based off the book "The Day the Crayons Quit" by Drew Daywait and Oliver Jeffers. It is a theatrical lesson mostly looking to identify cause and effect as well as foster problem solving skills. The lesson could include the composition of a song to the crayons or letter writing in language arts classes.
Field Experience (Hamilton High School)
In this experience I planned to focus a lot on dynamics, and also trying to get as many repetitions in that I could fit in my time.
In this field experience with Hamilton's freshman band class, I was focused on timing and articulation primarily. I also paid attention to some percussion cymbal rolls with guidance from Mr. Naylor and the clarient players.
This video is from one of my later times with Hamilton's freshman band class. In the beginning of this video, I can be seen team teaching with Mr. Naylor, the rest of the time I am trying to have students play as much as possible nearing their concert.
