2024 Repertoire for “Voices in Our Community”
Greetings to all our MHCB members,
We wanted to share some information about our upcoming season’s music for you to look forward to. Feel free to share this with friends who might be interested in joining us but are ‘on the fence’ about it!
As you’ve learned in previous emails, our concert theme this year is “Voices in Our Community”. The pieces we’ve chosen generally fit into that theme, one way or another. The music below is listed in alphabetical order for this mailing. There are more songs on the list than we will probably use. That gives us options as we’re putting the program together to create the best possible outcome.
Links below will get you to recordings if you’d like to listen a little in advance.
Americans We by Henry Fillmore. This is a classic American march.
Dance of the Trolls by Mike Forbes. Mr. Forbes (a composer, performer and educator living in Mount Horeb) wrote this piece to depict the mysterious trolls of our community.
Different Voices by Rick Kirby. Mr. Kirby is a Wisconsin composer, publisher and music educator. Each movement of this composition represents several of the different manners in which the human voice produces sound and becomes a vehicle of communication – therefore the title Different Voices.
Fanfare Hayabusa by Satoshi Yagisawa. Mr Yagisawa was commissioned to write this piece as part of the celebration in Japan of the successful Hayabusa asteroid probe mission.
It Had Better Be Tonight by Henry Mancini (originally used in “The Pink Panther” movie) that some of you might know as a recording by Michael Buble. This recording is of a jazz ensemble version but our version will be for full band with our guest vocalist.
Like the Wind by Erica Svanoe. Ms. Svanoe is an active composer and conductor who was asked to create this new composition in honor of the Wisconsin Arts Board’s 50th Anniversary.
They Can’t Take That Away From Me by Gershwin/Gershwin/Barker. An American standard, this is one of the pieces we will do with our guest vocalist.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season! See you next month.
