Thomas Jefferson is most well known for being the author of the Declaration of Independence. He wrote the Declaration to announce that we were no longer under Britain’s control. He made sure to announce our independence because it would allow other countries and armies to help us out in the Revolutionary war. America really wanted to announce this to France so they could help us and send their navy because America didn’t have their own navy.

The home of Thomas Jefferson, Monticello sits atop an 867-foot (264-meter) mountain in south-central Virginia. Jefferson took Enlightenment ideals about the rights of man and crafted them into a new nation. The Monticello is on a $2 dollar bill. Thomas Jefferson named the building Monticello, and it means "Little mountain" in Italian.
Embargo Act
Thomas Jefferson signed the Embargo Act to allow us to trade with other countries. This allowed us to still be able to trade with Africa, France, Britain, and more. Thomas Jefferson’s choice to sign the Embargo Act was a great decision for American history. This choice was really big in American history because if he didn’t sign it, who knows if we’d be able to trade with other countries now for resources we can’t get. He also tried his best to get rid of pirates so us and other countries could trade peaceful;y without pirates disturbing us and taking over our ships. If we would’ve just let this happen, who knows how many ships could’ve been hijacked and never seen again.
