At 9 years old Jefferson studied Latin, Greek, and French languages. He had six sisters and one brother, he was the eldest son. He came from a planter family and his father owned many slaves. He graduated from the college of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He first studied to become a lawyer with the help of George Wythe and ended up working as one in 1767. Jefferson also served in the House of Burgesses in 1769.
Jefferson served as Washington's Secretary of State in 1789. He was also a leader of a Democratic-Republican party. In 1793 he resigned from Washington's cabinet and three years later he was his Vice President. In 1801 Jefferson became the 2nd president of the United States. He served 2 terms and in 1803 accomplished the Louisiana Purchase.
Thomas Jefferson Helped found the University of Virginia. After his presidency he went back to his home in Monticello to pursue his interests once again. He ended up serving two terms and making the louisiana purchase. He passed away on July 4th, 1826. He owned a plantation and had many slaves. He managed to free some of his slaves, but not all. You can see his face on Mount Rushmore today.
Jefferson invented the swivel chair of which he first used to write most of the Declaration of Independence. It had no wheels and is in the possession of the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia.
Thomas Jefferson used macaroni as a general term for pasta. William Short, at Jefferson's request, procured a mould for making macaroni and sent it to his mentor in Paris. While Jefferson had the pasta machine in Monticello he later ordered pasta regularly from Europe.
Jefferson invented the moldboard plow which he never patented and gave to posterity. It is a simple machine used in farming . It can be pulled by a human or an animal to till up the dirt.
