MGHS Students,

Welcome to the 2020 - 2021 school year. As summer wanes, the nights start to get longer and the weather cooler. Students and staff look to the start of the school year to bring normalcy to our lives and re-establish the routines and rhythms we have shared since we were small. This fall, however, we find ourselves in a global pandemic, and COVID-19 has abruptly interrupted the normalcy of all our lives and brought its own routines including social distancing, wearing masks, and learning from home.

While the models we embrace to ensure all students have access to quality education may have changed, the core principles and values of Monona Grove High School will carry on. As we learned last spring, Monona Grove High School is not just a building or a place. It is a living organization made up of the collective energy of 1000 students and 100 staff members. The quality of our school will depend on our ability to communicate, adapt, and commit to the hard work we share.

This handbook outlines the academic and behavior expectations staff has of all MGHS students. The policies, rules, and expectations were enacted in the traditional, face-to-face learning environment; therefore, not all policies, rules, or expectations are directly applicable to the Virtual Learning 2.0 model the district has embraced to start the year. As such, please read the 2020-21 Student Handbook Addendum: Virtual Learning Rules and Expectations, which updates or replaces many of the items presented in this handbook. You can find this addendum linked below or as a tab in this web page. Please familiarize yourself with both documents to ensure you are aware of what is expected of you this school year.

The administration and teaching staff are committed to helping you make the most of your 2020-21 school year. Despite the challenges we face as a school community, we will continue to communicate, adapt, and commit to each other. Go, Silver Eagles!
