Citing your sources
When you "cite" a source, you are showing that you took the words or ideas from another place.
Failure to acknowledge these sources can be considered plagiarism. (Plagiarism is when you take someone else's work or ideas and pass it off as your own. This also applies to images!)
Make sure you are providing a way for the reader to know where you got your information for your research.
Types of Plagiarism
There are different types of plagiarism. Make sure you are not making these mistakes:
Direct Plagiarism: including a word-for-word quote from your resource without a citation
Paraphrasing: passing off the ideas of others as your own
Self Plagiarism: also known as 'double-dipping' is when you reuse the same paper for more than one class or assignment
Plagiarism of Images: using charts, graphics, photos, tables, or webpages without citing the source
When in doubt, cite your resource!
