Hattie Porcupine Long Wolf was a Sioux Native American born in 1867. She was sent to the Carlisle Indian School in 1879 by her father and was one of the first students to attend there. After her graduation in 1892, she became a teacher at Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Throughout history, Indigenous women have been erased from the narrative and written off. While at the Carlisle Indian School, Hattie Long Wolf shows the bravery, determination, and resilience of a young Indigenous woman who overcame the narrative thrust upon her.
Long Wolf was the success story for the Carlisle Indian School. She completed school through them, sent her daughter there, and even went on to teach students herself on her reservation.
Her success was displayed long after she graduated from the school and was glorified because of her achievements.
