The beginning band program at Kimbrough Middle School is the foundation for the entire band program. Beginning band is structured to teach each student the fundamental music skills required to be successful on their instrument.
During the school year, the Kimbrough Middle School Beginning Band focuses on developing a characteristic tone quality. We begin from step one by learning how to have proper posture, read notes and rhythms, and hold the instrument. Beginning Band is used as an opportunity to teach all students the fundamental skills to play their instruments and prepare them for their first full band experience.Â
Beginning Band has multiple performances, including our Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and Spring Festival Trip to the BLBDA Festival.
The Kimbrough Middle School Band has 4 Advanced Bands. These advanced-level classes emphasize the development of full-band performance skills in preparation for concerts and UIL contest. The students continue developing solid fundamentals, increase musical ability and range, and prepare for high school band. A higher level of technical playing proficiency is developed and enjoyed in multiple performing opportunities. Individual growth and achievement are encouraged through solo and ensemble performance, All-Region Band Auditions, Mesquite All-City Band Auditions, Pre-UIL Contest, UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest, and various festival performances. We strongly encourage all members of Advanced Band to participate in private lessons.
