M.E.S. Garware College of Commerce, Pune

M.E.S.'Garware College of Commerce was established in 1967 is one of the largest commerce colleges in Pune, with a students' strength of around 3000. The College provides education up to post graduate level in the Commerce stream. Various specialized subjects in Commerce and Administration are also offered to the students as electives. The college also offers Vocational Courses in Computer Applications and Taxation. College has a team of highly qualified and devoted faculty.  College Website

About Library - The College Library is enriched with books on various streams of commerce, management, information technology, taxation,  laws well as English / Marathi literature.  Library collections also include online resources, E-Books, CDs, and Periodicals.

Membership - All the GCC stakeholders ( Teaching and supporting staff, students, sister concerns ) are members of the library. Library services are also available for retired staff members, past students and all others with Library Deposit of Rs.1000/- and annual library fee of Rs.1000/-

Library Facilities to Students

All the students of the college avail the facilities provided by the library.

Ø Issuing of books - Students can borrow one book at a time and keep for seven days. Library has two issuing counters one for Textbooks and for other Reference and Literature books.

Ø Additional Library Card - Students of M.Com. , Vocational Taxation are issued an additional library card and get one additional book of the subjects opted for.

Students appearing for professional examinations like CA, CS, ICWA etc. and the ones interested in additional reading are issued an additional library card facility by paying Rs.100/- as library fee.

Ø Production and distribution of Identity Card, Library Card, Academic Calendar immediately at the time of admission.

Ø Book Bank - Library has developed sets of books for the book bank purpose. Under this scheme students get one set of textbooks which they can keep till the final examinations.

Ø Notice Board – To inform students about library notices are displayed on the notice board of the library. A list of new arrival of books is displayed on the notice board. New books arrived in the library are also displayed. This helps the students and staff to see visually what is added to the library.

Ø Students preparing for extra-curricular activities like elocution, debate, essay writing and all other types of competitions held by the college or at inter collegiate level are provided maximum assistance from the library. The staff helps them to locate the material and these books are kept reserved for these students. A special assistance is provided to the students doing their practicals of different subjects. All the references from books, periodicals, and reference sources are kept ready for them.

Ø Life membership for library facilities for ex-students and retired staff members – All current teachers and students are lifetime members of library as they can utilize the library facilities. For home loan facility the ex-students have to give request and pay nominal charges.

Reading Hall & Departmental Library Facilities

Ø Seating Capacity – 140 +35 in departmental library.

Ø Syllabi - Library has a collection of syllabi of F.Y.B.Com. to M.Com. and BBA, BBA (IB) BBA (Computer Applications) & MCA (Commerce). These are made available to the students for current references.

Ø Reference Sources – Many sources of reference like encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, directories, and gazetteers are available. These sources are very useful to commerce students and they get this material for current reading purpose.

Ø Text Books For Current Reading - A total set of all textbooks from F.Y.B.Com. to M.Com and BBA, BBA (IB), BBA(CA) & MCA (Commerce) is kept for Current Reading to the students. Students get these textbooks to read in the reading halls only.

Ø Section of Competitive Examinations - A separate section is maintained in the reading hall for the books and periodicals useful in preparation for Competitive Examinations.

Ø Examinations Paper Sets (Last Five Years) - The library provides paper sets of last five examinations. These paper sets are kept in the reading halls of the library for current reading only and also for xeroxing the same.

Ø Daily News Papers ( No. 12 )

Ø Periodicals  - Students get latest periodicals for current reading and past periodicals for home issue.

Ø Diwali special Issues - In Maharashtra, the Diwali Anks or special issues are an integral part of the festive season. It is a special festival issue of a magazine that include short stories, essays on art and culture, social and political writings, humor and satire, travel and astrology. These issues became a rich expression of Marathi literature and culture. Every year library purchases 35 to 40 Diwali special issues.

Ø ‘Read a Book Get a Pen’ Scheme - Students get pens after reading and abstracting selected books. This activity is carried out to motivate the students for extra curricular reading.

Ø Suggestion Box

Ø Free Distribution of Books Counter – Some books withdrawn from library are kept on the counter for free distribution to the users.

Ø Night Reading Hall till 9 P.M. from January till the conclusion of all examinations every year.

Book Exhibition

Book exhibition is arranged along with the prize distribution function every year in the month of February where prominent booksellers in the Pune city having specialization in different branches of knowledge participate. The wide range of books covers all the major aspects of commerce, computer and many other general subjects like literature, arts, philosophy etc. Students get opportunity to view and purchase their favorite books at discounted prices.
