In Meriden Public Schools, equity is the opportunity for every individual to:
To achieve equity we will build meaningful relationships and collectively challenge existing inequities, respect differences, and actively remove barriers. Core values of empathy, open-mindedness, respect for each individual’s uniqueness, along with awareness of both individual and systemic bias guide our efforts to assure equity for all.
“The work is essential to providing opportunities for all students to be successful. Meriden, like many other districts throughout CT, has pockets of subgroups that underperform as compared to their peers. We want to implement strategies to mitigate that and empower all student to succeed. Additionally, as our population shifts, we want to ensure that we our reaching all of our students and meeting their needs. To accomplish this task, the district must look at all of aspects of our schools from both a larger systems perspective and an individual student perspective. A focus on outcomes, resources, academic and social-emotional support and culturally relevant pedagogy are some of the focal points that are interwoven in the pursuit of implementing Equity in Meriden.”
