Below you will find information on our DEIS plan for this partnerships with others. The co-ordinator for this pillar is Leah Kenny.
Rationale for our Partnership with Others Targets:
At Mercy, we recognise that effective partnership with others plays a key role in supporting student engagement, attendance and aspiration, particularly for students at risk of disengagement. As a DEIS school, many of our students benefit most when learning is connected to the wider community and to experiences beyond the classroom.
Attendance data and pastoral records have identified a cohort of students in First to Third Year whose low attendance places them at risk of poorer educational outcomes. Evidence informed practice shows that engagement with external organisations can positively impact student motivation, strengthen relationships and increase students’ sense of belonging to school. By developing and sustaining purposeful partnerships, we aim to reengage these students and support improved attendance and participation.
We also recognise the importance of student-led engagement with the local community. Feedback from students and staff highlights that involvement in community initiatives supports confidence, leadership skills and pride in the school, while strengthening relationships with families and local stakeholders. Expanding these opportunities supports key skills development and reinforces the school’s role as an inclusive and active presence within the community.
Finally, broadening students’ horizons is central to raising expectations and aspirations. Many of our students have limited access to international and intercultural learning opportunities. Reestablishing international partnerships will provide meaningful experiences that promote cultural awareness, motivation and a more outward looking view of education and future pathways.
Together, these priorities reflect our commitment, in line with DEIS objectives, to working collaboratively with others to support engagement, improve attendance and expand opportunities for all students, particularly those most at risk of educational disadvantage.
