In March, seniors visited the National Museum of History & Culture. We had to write a reflection about exhibits that we thought exemplified African Americans "making a way out of no way." My reflection is attached here.
In this project, we created a political cartoon about an issue we cared about in the world today. I chose to focus on Women Stereotypes. My cartoon shows different stereotypes women face daily in order to be perfect women. We then wrote about the importance of our issue.
We were assigned to create a café menu that represents different world zones and use what was available in each zone, both before and after the Columbian Exchange. My group and I named ours "Cafe D'Mercy." We serve American Dishes for breakfast and Afro-Eurasian dishes for lunch. For dinner we serve a mixture of both American and Afro-Eurasian dishes.
While learning about the Industrial Revolution, we were tasked with making a commercial for inventions that changed our world. My group advertised the seed drill invented by Jethro Tull. We made our commercial by having a director, producer, screenwriter, creative designer, and researcher. My role was director, and I accomplished this by recording most of the clips and my voiceover in the video. I also took part in the video, acting.
In the beginning of Freshman year, we were assigned an Immigration project. We learned about immigration and the different aspects/elements that are involved with immigration. We chose a country we would like to immigrate to and had to incorporate the different aspects/elements of immigration into the project. I chose to immigrate to the Dominican Republic. I enjoyed this project because I got to show the my class why I love traveling to the Dominican Republic so much. I showed them how much I'll miss the school when I immigrate and how much important family is for me.
We were assigned to choose one of temple out of the many that are in greece. The temple that I chose was The Temple of Athena Nike. I learned that the structure was built around 220 BCE and destroyed in 480 BCE. The temple was rebuilt in 1834.
Freshman Year - Second Semester - African American History I
The second semester of Freshman year we began studying African American History. We began with the origin of the Atlantic Slave Trade up to the beginning of the US Civil War. During the 3rd quarter, we were tasked with creating an old fashioned “WANTED” poster. However, our poster was to be designed around a person who was “WANTED” for their involvement with the Atlantic Slave Trade, in general, or involved with American slavery, in particular. My “WANTED” poster featured a picture of Rosmarilin Bentley. I chose this person because she was a slave owner.
