Family Resource Specialists act as the essential link between the school and the home, working alongside caregivers to strengthen family stability, navigate community resources, and foster nurturing environments.
Miss Cheryl has worked with Mercer Street Friends for 38 years!
She says, "working with parents is my passion, helping them look at what they do and how it affects their children, using a variety of curricula. Each parent is different, each family has their own culture, and listening to them, not telling them what they should do, but asking them how I can assist them. Sometimes just listening is the greatest gift I offer to a parent. Every parent has strengths; we just need to look for them and tell them what we see."
Our Parents As Teachers (PAT) Program is a trauma-informed, nationally recognized, evidence-based home visiting model designed to ensure that young children are safe, healthy, and ready to learn. PAT has four main components: personal visits by trained Parent Educators, group connections, child screenings, and resource networking.
