The word "Test" is such an ugly word, filled with all sorts of negative and anxiety-filled emotions of high expectations. For that reason, we at the Menlo College Innovation Center refrain from "testing" our members. Instead, we celebrate the knowledge of all our community members. By completing the Innovation Center Celebration of Knowledge (ICCK) process, individuals will be certified to use specific pieces of equipment on which they have demonstrated their proficiency. Once certified that they have achieved an understanding for the initial "Orientation" badge, they will be presented with an Innovation Center key fob, each member will be provided a tag which they may used to scan in and out of the Center in place of filling out a Google form each time they enter or exit. Any subsequent certifications will be added to the key fob to allow access to their respective locked cabinets. Once a member is certified and cleared to use a piece of equipment, as long as that equipment has not already been reserved and/or is not actively being used, they may use it at their own digression without the need to ask anyone for permission.
In order to earn a badge and be "certified" to use any piece of equipment in the Innovation Center, we want to ensure you will be FULLY educated and safe at all times. In order to do so, we require each Celebration to be passed with a score of 100%. Lucky for you, we understand that, like in the real world, if something doesn't make sense, or you don't know how to do something, a web search or instructional video is just a few clicks away. For this reason, all of our Celebrations of Knowledge are open book, are not time limited, and may be retaken as many times as you need. We just ask that you don't take the fun out of the certifications from anyone else by sharing the answers.
Available Badges
The following are the badges you can earn by taking the Celebrations of Knowledge through the Innovation Center. Each badge can be achieved by scoring a 100% on their respective Celebration of Knowledge. Once achieved, you will be free to reserve that piece of equipment and use it to complete class work, personal projects, or any other way you find to explore your innovative side!
Please complete the "Orientation" badge first.
Then, choose the others in any order you wish.
This badge allows you use of the Innovation Center and establishes your official membership.
You will be evaluated on your basic knowledge of the Innovation Center, it's operations, and rules.
Upon completing the required evaluation, you will be presented with an Innovation Center branded and RFID enabled key fob that that will serve as your primary method of checking in and out of the Innovation Center, as well as your method of checking out equipment once you are certified to do so.
(HINT: This site will be your best tool to learn all you need to know about the Innovation Center!)
This badge allows you use of our two 3D printers, 3D printing pens, silicone mats, filament dry box, and filament supplies.

This badge allows you use of our craft cabinet, its contents, and paint supplies.
Paint, paper, tape, scissors, markers, ribbon, you name it! Our Craft Cabinet is fully stocked with any supplies you might need to express your creativity. These supplies can be used for any artistic mediums you may want to pursue, explore, or discover. Supplies in this cabinet can be used with other equipment in the Innovation Center or by themselves to create art, decorate, and much more. We can't wait to see and share in the beauty and joy you will bring to the world with your newly achieved Art Supplies Certification!
This badge allows you use of our 2” and 2.25” button making presses as well as the appropriate circle punches.
These pieces of equipment can be used to make professional pin-backed buttons for promotions, gifts, or just to show off your style. Our two sizes of buttons are the perfect sizes to be small enough to put on your bag or shirt while being large enough to still not having trouble catching the attention and intrigue of passersby.
This badge allows you use of the Cricut Cutter, it’s mats, blade assortment, tools, vinyl, and more!
Whether you want to make custom cards, decals, or detailed fabric art, this piece of equipment is for you! Simply create (or find) a 2D design that you want made, digitally upload it into the appropriate software, load your desired material, and watch your creation come to life!
This badge allows you use of the cordless heated wire foam cutter kit.
A relatively niche tool that can be used to create some truly stunning pieces of art. Whether you are trying to make costumes, props, signs, or custom packaging, this tool will make your life so much easier. No more suffering through the shrill shriek of cutting through styrofoam with a blade, now you can cut smoothly through it!
This badge allows you use of the 18”x18” heat press, hat heat press, mug heat press, as well as various electric irons, and ironing mats.

This badge allows you use of our tool sets, electric driver, tape measures, multimeters, PVC pipe cutters, and more.
You never know when you’ll need a hammer, a wrench, a screwdriver, or a tape measure, so why not get certified right away? If you already know how to use it, then why not get cleared to use it whenever you need by taking this celebration of knowledge?
This badge allows you use of the Glowforge laser cutter and related supplies.
From precisely cutting wood to engraving metal and so much more, this machine will do it all! Whether you want to make custom puzzles or personalized tags, this heavier-duty version of the Craft Cutter will open you up to endless possibilities of how you might engage in the craft or personal decoration world of wonder that awaits you!
This badge, AKA "Photography Badge", allows you use of the Shotbox photo booth, the digital camera, Polaroid cameras, lighting equipment, and the other photography equipment.
Whether you’re looking to take pictures of small objects or large, this badge will allow you to use the tools you need to create astonishing digital pictures of whatever you may be able to capture. This badge allows you use of the soldering iron, heat gun, anti-static mat, and the control station.
Electronics or jewelry making, this piece of equipment can give you the functional and professional touch you may be looking for. This piece of equipment has a control station that offers precise control of heat for the soldering iron as well as for the heat gun. It also has a built-in power station for plugging in and testing your electronics projects.
This badge allows you use of the sewing machine, hand sewing equipment, and fabric supplies.
Get a head start on learning one of the most practical skills you can have! One of the most commonly requested pieces of equipment is the Sewing Machine. Students can use it to mend their clothes, make pillow shams, and make new cloth creations of all kinds. Whether you are someone who wants to undertake a quilt, give your old T-shirt a new life, or even close up a tear in your jeans, the Innovation Center is ecstatic to offer this opportunity and looks forward to seeing how you use it to further your list of skills!

The Innovation Center key fob is more than just a trinket to add to your keychain or backpack to show pride in your affiliation with the Innovation Center. It can be earned by scoring 100% on the Innovation Center orientation celebration of knowledge. Once completed, the member will be presented with an Innovation Center branded key fob programmed with the individual's data. The purpose of the Innovation Center key fob is primarily to speed up the required data collection for documenting the use of the Innovation Center as well as to give access to the locked equipment cabinets once the appropriate tests are passed. Within a day of passing a celebration of knowledge with a 100% score, members will have their key fob programmed to allow access to the appropriate cabinets. With the key fob, individuals don't have to fill out the Google form each time they enter and exit the Innovation center, but rather just have to scan in and their information will be recorded. The Innovation Center key fob has the added benefit of acting as a little dongle you can show off to your family, friends, and classmates that you have a membership to the Menlo College Innovation Center!
