Use Primary Sources to Create new Connections in STEAM Education While at the Museum of Fine Arts

Location: Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA

Dates: July 25 - July 26, 2017; 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

This two-day, Teaching with Primary Sources Level 1 and 2, workshop will share the Museum of Fine Art’s amazing collection of primary sources on display with STEAM educators, highlighting how it can deepen students’ understanding of the history and culture of a particular area of the world and inspire students to speak and write about what they see. Art is a great way to connect with a myriad of subject areas--including math and science, as it can be used to examine geometric ratios contained in Renaissance painting and other technological innovations throughout artistic movements. In addition to working with museum staff members during this two-day workshop, educators will combine previous knowledge with Library of Congress and Teaching with Primary Sources materials and lesson-building tools. By the end these two days, teachers will have created new standards-based lessons utilizing the power of primary sources.

These workshops are sponsored in part by the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Eastern Region Program, coordinated by Waynesburg University.
