For this project my main focus was on color. Through High School before this year I had worked with black and white film, so I took this project as an opportunity to shoot digitally, and in color! I think color is a huge way to express yourself, and help to connect a feeling to something. For example a dark blue gloomy sky adds an eerie sad message. My main goal for this project was to pair a color with an emotion that correlates. I came to this idea because one day my friends were listing off colors that we associated with each other. This had me thinking how its funny that all of us agreed on who was what color and why. I found that peoples personalities and moods had a lot to do with what color they got. This then inspired me to shoot colors and their emotions for my final project.
It was my sister, my color changing light, my camera, and the makeshift backgrounds that helped me achieve my photos. I shot blue as sadness, yellow as joy, red as anger, and red as love, green as greed, purple as power and lastly white symbolizing being neutral. I chose to keep the same model, my sister, throughout this whole project to show how one person can experience all kinds of different emotions, and to normalize that. I feel like a lot of people suppress their emotions, and strive for constant happiness, when in reality it is natural and healthy to be sad, or angry every once in awhile. I wanted to include white/neutral to show the balance of all these emotions, and to emphasize this is all one person experiencing this. While there are limitless colors and emotions to go along I choose ones I felt most drawn to, and what seemed most obvious to tie to an emotion.
