Everything always comes back to music for me. It's where everything started for me, so I guess that makes sense. I grew up in a very musical family, where there was always a CD spinning or a guitar playing no matter where we went. Unfortunately, I'm not at all musically talented, but I consider myself to be a devoted listener and lover. My headphones are practically a vital organ. There's something about a good song that just makes my heart swell up, and no moment feels perfect without an appropriate soundtrack.
Music has always been a very visual thing for me, so with this project I wanted to physically manifest the feelings brought on by some of my favorite songs through photography. So, I've created a visual playlist of sorts. I hoped to have the playlist be a tangle of both nostalgic songs, and ones that are true to how I feel today. Some of these songs I have known and loved since birth, and others are ones that have only stuck with me through the past few years or even months.
I started out the playlist with If You're Feeling Sinister because of the lyric, ¨Anthony went to his death because he thought he'd never feel this way again.¨ I know what it's like to feel so much all the time that you're not sure how to live with yourself; it's such a difficult and lucky place to be. Music has been a way to cope with the confusion of being alive, so I wanted the playlist to show the evolution from hopelessness to acceptance. I ended it with In The Aeroplane Over The Sea because I think it provides a perfect resolution to the discomfort brought up in If You're Feeling Sinister by basically answering the question ¨Why live?¨ with ¨We might as well.¨ When you get caught up in all the muddled, scary, beautiful feelings that existence brings on, just take a step back and notice ¨how strange it is to be anything at all.¨
