Students will be assigned to a homeroom teacher. Each homeroom teacher will also have a Google Classroom where announcements and information will be posted. Your child will receive an invitation to join the Google Classroom in their school email.
There will be virtual 30 minute homeroom meetings each week. These meetings aim to keep students connected with their peers and engaged in their learning. Teachers will serve as points of contact for your child. They will check in to make sure your child is doing well, answer questions, and provide encouragement and support. Homeroom teachers do not provide academic support. If your child needs help with academics, please contact a consulting teacher.

Homeroom teachers can connect students with a subject specific teacher (i.e math, science, so on) if they have questions or need additional support. Parents and students can also reach out to these teachers directly. Finally, parents are also welcome to reach out directly to Mr. Mattie.
Subject specific consulting teachers are available to provide academic tutoring support for students. If a student is stuck, has questions, or generally needs help with an Apex class, the student can email one of the subject specific teachers on the list. Students can ask questions through email or request a Google Meet for a virtual tutoring session. Consulting teachers also grade "teacher scored" practice assignments students submit through Apex. Mr. Mattie, Ms. Bober, and Mrs. Hamman are also happy to help.
The list of teachers is for subject specific questions only.
In an independent learning environment, it can be a real challenge to manage time and remain organized, motivated, and focused.
We are working with The University of Akron to provide student teachers who will be available from 11:00-12:00 every Thursday and Friday morning to provide small group and individual study skills tutoring sessions to support students.
Study skills sessions include short lessons on time management, note taking, goal setting, developing strong study habits, and more. The sessions relate to the Apex curriculum and provide an opportunity for students to work with an adult on planning and organization. Tutors will also meet individually with students to check progress and make a plan for students to remain on track with their Apex courses.

Contact Ms. Burgess (Friday sessions): burgessk@medinabees.org
All students are welcome to attend these meetings; however, students can also reach out directly to the teachers to schedule an individual meeting. Homeroom teachers might also submit a referral to Mr. Mattie for students to attend a study skills meeting. Mr. Mattie will send out weekly emails to students who have been referred. Mr. Gallagher and Ms. Burgess, student teachers from the University of Akron, do a great job helping small groups and individual students set goals and schedules for the semester.
